Helping Your Body Move — and Heal — the Way It Should

Chiropractic is a hands-on treatment that focuses on how your spine, joints and nervous system work together. When your body is aligned and moving properly, you feel better, function better and recover faster.

At Parkstone Chiropractic and Wellness, our approach is gentle, effective and tailored to you. We use a range of techniques to reduce pain, restore mobility and improve how your body performs day to day.

This isn’t just about treating symptoms — it’s about helping your body do what it was designed to do.

We Help with More Than Just Back Pain

Chiropractic can be highly effective for a wide range of musculoskeletal issues, including:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Joint pain and stiffness
  • Sciatica and trapped nerves
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Shoulder and arm pain
  • Postural issues
  • Sports injuries
  • Chronic tension and fatigue

If you’re not sure whether chiropractic is right for you, we’re always happy to talk it through.

Any Questions..?

Stay Active. Stay Strong. Stay Well.

Chiropractic isn’t only for when something’s gone wrong. Many of our patients come to us not because they’re in pain — but because they want to stay active, avoid injury and improve their quality of life.

By keeping your spine and joints moving well, we help reduce the everyday strain that can build up over time. Regular chiropractic care can support better posture, improved mobility, faster recovery and a stronger foundation for long-term health.

Tailored Treatment, Every Step of the Way

No two people move — or heal — the same. That’s why we always start with a thorough consultation to understand your symptoms, lifestyle, and goals.

We then build a treatment plan around you, using evidence-based chiropractic techniques combined with practical advice, rehab exercises and where helpful, support from our wider team.

Our goal is simple: to help you feel better, and stay that way.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What happens when I visit a chiropractor for the first time?

Your first appointment will usually last around 30 minutes to an hour. During this time, your chiropractor will:

    • Take a full case history, asking about your symptoms, general health and medical history
    • Perform a physical examination, which may include orthopaedic and neurological tests
    • Possibly refer you for X-rays or other tests if needed (they’ll explain why)
    • Talk through what they’ve found and explain your treatment options
    • Begin treatment if appropriate and with your consent

You’ll be given time to ask questions, and everything will be explained clearly before anything happens.

  • Will the treatment hurt?

Some patients may experience mild discomfort during or after treatment, particularly if it's your first time or you're not used to being manipulated. This is perfectly normal and usually passes within 24– 48 hours.

Let your chiropractor know if you're unsure or feel uncomfortable at any point.

  • What is chiropractic treatment?

Chiropractors are trained to assess and treat problems with the bones, joints, muscles and nervous system.

Treatment often involves gentle, controlled movements or manipulation of specific joints. Depending on your condition, your chiropractor may also recommend:

    • Soft tissue massage or mobilisation
    • Posture and movement advice
    • Stretching or strengthening exercises
    • Lifestyle or ergonomic changes
    • A personalised treatment or rehabilitation programme
  • What do I need to know before my first chiropractic session?

Before you begin treatment, your chiropractor will:

    • Explain the proposed treatment plan
    • Talk you through any risks and benefits
    • Give you time to ask questions
    • Ask for your consent before starting anything

You should also wear comfortable clothing and be prepared for the chiropractor to access the area being treated.

  • How many visits will I need?

    This varies depending on:

    • How severe or long-standing your issue is
    • How your body responds to treatment
    • Your chiropractor’s advice
    • Your lifestyle and goals

After your first few visits, your chiropractor will discuss your progress and whether ongoing or periodic care might help maintain improvement.

  • Do I need to tell my GP?

You don’t need a GP referral to see a chiropractor. However, it’s helpful to keep your GP informed, especially if you're under their care for a long-term condition or are on medication.

With your consent, your chiropractor can update your GP as needed to make sure your records are complete and up to date.

  • Do I have to pay for my treatment?

Yes — you’ll usually need to pay for chiropractic treatment unless you’re:

    • Covered by Private Medical Insurance (PMI)
    • On a health cash plan
    • Living in an area with NHS-funded chiropractic care

NHS chiropractic services are not widely available, so it's best to speak to your GP or chiropractor to check what's available in your area.

If you have PMI, confirm with your provider that chiropractic treatment is covered and let your chiropractor know how you’ll be paying.

  • Can anyone call themselves a chiropractor?

No. It’s illegal for anyone in the UK to use the title “chiropractor” or imply they are one unless they’re registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC).

All registered chiropractors must have insurance to cover any claims made against them.

  • By law, the General Chiropractic Council must:
    • Check applicants have an approved chiropractic qualification and are of good character, mentally and physically fit
    • Set and monitor standards of education and training
    • Set standards of professional conduct
    • Investigate and act on complaints about chiropractors or their practice
